Hello, Rotake Reusable!
Almost 300 million disposable cups are used in Denmark every year. In only a matter of a few minutes and these cups end up in waste bins or are littered into the environment. In both cases, it becomes waste, never to be used again.
The City of Aarhus is leading a trailblazing effort to reduce plastic usage. In Aarhus, approximately half the waste collected from street cleaning and public waste bins is from takeaway food packaging. To-go cups are one of the top-ranking items – a number that the city is determined to change.
Together with local restaurants and cafes, the City of Aarhus and circular economy experts from TOMRA collaborated to create a new reusable takeaway packaging system designed for the city center. The three-year trial kicked off with the introduction of reusable to-go cups and hopes to expand the offering to include other common types of takeaway food containers.

Using Rotake Reusable is as easy as 1-2-3
Step 1 – Order
Order your favorite items at a participating retailer. You’ll pay a small deposit – but no worries, you’ll get it back when you return the container to the rotake system.
Step 2 – Enjoy
Enjoy your to-go drinks and takeout dishes even more, knowing that rotake reusable packaging is hygienic and doesn’t create unnecessary waste.
Step 3 – Return
Return empty rotake containers to any return point in the city. Use the smart card reader on the machine to refund the deposit amount to your debit/credit card.
